Phil Parkinson recently revealed they have a squad ready to challenge the EFL League Two teams in the upcoming season. But he reiterated that the Reds are looking for a few signings. As part of the plans, they figured out the former Manchester United star as their target. Wrexham intended to sign Nick Powell to help Paul Mullin in goalscoring.
Stoke City, a second-division team, recently released Powell. The midfielder was available for free after spending four seasons in the EFL Championship. Powell, capable of playing as a striker, was also on the radar of many clubs. His last two seasons may have been inconsistent, with several injuries, but his experience in top divisions made him the hot prospect.

The Red Dragons received the first setback when Powell opted to train with their rivals Crewe Alexandra. Alexandra is the club where Powell spent his early days before moving to Manchester United. However, he wasn’t able to stamp his authority at Old Trafford. The Alexandra product didn’t even hit the double figures with United in his four years stay.
And now, the former Stoke City star decided to join Wrexham rivals Stockport County. County plies its trade in League Two and will rival the world’s third-oldest soccer club. By announcing the Nick Powell signing, County has already made it 1-0 over Wrexham. The club will look into other options now. Another setback after Gareth Bale’s rejection?
