It is hard to fathom the impact Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo had on world soccer. A rivalry spanning almost two decades, the icons are arguably the greatest players in the sport’s history, with more than 800 goals each. But does that make them the most skillful in the sport? Not according to a former Manchester City midfielder. Despite all their numbers and displays on the pitch, Samir Nasri named two other players who transcended Messi and CR7 in terms of talent.

Discussing in a recent podcast, Nasri claimed that Brazilian legends Ronaldo Nazario and Ronaldinho were better than Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He stated, “But an example in terms of bonus, Ronaldo (R9) and Ronaldinho in terms of pure talent if they had been serious, they extinguish. For me, they extinguish Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo,” praising their exquisite talent. However, Nasri agreed certain hurdles stopped them from reaching the peak.

Ronaldo (R9) and Ronaldinho were stalwarts in the 90s and 2000s Brazilian super teams. Their trophy haul and goal tallies at the club level may not match the Portuguese and Argentinian captains, who are far ahead. But that was due to a few career hiccups, like R9’s injuries and off-field distractions that hampered their longevity.

Nevertheless, winning the 2002 World Cup, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho accumulated multiple international and club titles throughout their careers. But, beyond the stunning trophy cabinets, their style of play used to glue the fans to their seats.

Samir Nasri explains what made the two Brazilian legends better than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano are also known for some incredible free-flowing soccer. However, it doesn’t come close to the two Canarinhos. Nasri also said, “In pure talent, Ronaldinho, what he does with the ball brother, it’s unheard of. And Ronaldo (R9), for example, there are coaches who have worked and have seen all these players before their eyes. They said, ‘I’ve never seen Ronaldo the Brazilian what he could do. And I’ve never seen anyone else do it,'” revealing the long-lasting impression they left.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo R9 was known for scoring immaculate goals that involved long runs with speed and dribbling and was a nightmare for defenders during his peak. He finished his career with 414 goals and was also the youngest player to win the Ballon d’Or. Whereas Ronaldinho’s skills with the ball also made him a pleasure to watch. Overall, the legacy of all the four soccer players is unquestionable. But who do you think was the best in terms of talent? Let us know in the comments.
