Manchester City Phil Foden’s stock plummeted like the Wall Street Exchange in 2011. Despite being predicted as the player to watch out for during the Euros 2024, the Englishman has failed to capitalize on his momentum from his club season. Despite featuring in four games for the Three Lions during the competition, Foden did not contribute any goals.

Fans have been clamoring for manager Gareth Southgate to drop Phil Foden from the squad as he fails to make the most of the chances. However, former England star Chris Waddle believes it is wrong to pile such expectations on Foden. In an exclusive interview with Gentic Casino, Waddle stated, “Everybody wants Phil Foden to play because of what he does at Man City. Everyone expects Phil to replicate what he does at club level, but that was always going to be unrealistic.”

He added, “Phil plays with some unbelievable players at Manchester City. Their movement and chemistry has been honed for years – the understanding that he has with players like Rodri, De Bruyne, Haaland, Bernardo is telepathic. It’s never going to be like that playing for England because chemistry can’t be forged in a matter of weeks.”

Waddle also had a lot to say about Gareth Southgate’s selection policy, while questioning his decision to field Trent Alexander-Arnold in the midfield. England will now take on Switzerland in the quarterfinals and fans will hope Phil Foden can find his form before the crucial game.

Phil Foden woeful for England as misery piles on for Manchester City superstar

Things haven’t worked out for the English midfielder this summer. The opening game against Serbia saw Gareth Southgate start Phil Foden in the center of the midfield. The plan went up in smoke real quick as the team failed to make the most of their chances with Jude Bellingham’s sole goal bailing out the team.

Following the first three games, Foden has been operating on the left side of the field. However, despite it being his natural position, things haven’t worked out for the English player. While Gareth Southgate’s tactics could be held responsible for the midfielder’s dip in form, the player himself hasn’t been able to put on the performances fans expect from him.

Phil Foden was marginally offside against Slovakia last night and could have easily controlled his run. Fans will hope the player can get his head past the past four performances and give his best in what could be England’s toughest fixture so far in the tournament.
