Serie A giant Roma stunned the fans last night with the side parting ways with long-time manager Jose Mourinho. The Giallorossi roped the Portuguese tactician in 2021 but seems like a string of poor results this season has marked his end at the club. While fans can understand the club’s reasoning behind the decision, many are not on board with the way the decorated manager was thrown under the bus. Ex-Roma boss Fabio Capello was in no mood to mellow things as he blasted club owner Dan Friedkin for disrespecting Mourinho.

The Giallorossi has failed to deliver up to the expectations, with the side currently sitting ninth in the Serie A standing. Mourinho, in his last weeks with the club, had a disappointing run, winning just one of six domestic fixtures. With the Portuguese, now out of the club, Roma appointed former club captain Daniele De Rossi as their new manager. Yet, some legends are unhappy with the judgment.

Former Roma boss Fabio Capello was fuming after Roma parted ways with Jose Mourinho. The ex-Giallorossi blasted club owner Dan Friedkin for disrespecting Mourinho with how the club management handled his departure.

Capello, in an interview with Record, stated, “I think that these North American companies work without respecting the people they work with. We saw that in Milan with [Paolo] Maldini and now in Trigoria, with Mourinho. They only think about the business. I, however, think that respect is also necessary, perhaps with an agreement concluded beforehand and not with a statement and a telephone call.”

He then advised the newly appointed manager, Daniele De Rossi, to study the changes Jose Mourinho brought to the team and introduce innovative ideas without revolutionizing it. De Rossi will be in charge of Roma until June, with the club holding an option to extend his contract based on his performance.

Roma part ways with Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho’s firing has caught a lot of people by surprise. According to reports, the Portuguese manager was unaware of the club’s decision, as owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin summoned him to the training ground to inform him of the club’s decision.

Roma issued a statement earlier tonight announcing Mourinho’s departure from the club. “We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club. We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma. But we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavors.”
