The shining light in an otherwise normal season for Manchester United is Kobbie Mainoo. Having already earned comparisons with the iconic Clarence Seedorf, the midfield technician made his Premier League debut in November 2023. Unsurprisingly, he won the MOTM in that game and there has been no looking back since. Now, Mainoo has earned a call-up to Euro 2024 and is dominating the headlines. Yet, little is known regarding his life off the pitch.
Despite his swagger with the ball, Mainoo is a humble, laid-back personality off it. The biggest contributor to his meteoric rise has been his close-knit family. Who are these unsung heroes behind one of the biggest sporting talents in the country? Let’s find out below.

Kobbie Mainoo’s dad Felix was not only a supportive father but also aided in his son’s early development as a player. He ensured that his son received the best training and without his efforts, Mainoo might not have made it to the United Academy. It was in England that Felix met Abena Herold, Kobbie’s mother. Like Felix, Abena had too migrated from Ghana.
In England, Abena and Felix grew close and eventually married. The couple welcomed two daughters, Ama and Elfia, and a son before giving birth to Kobbie. Efia currently runs a business in Manchester while Ama studied Sports Business management.
Although Abena and Felix have divorced, they continue to be united in offering support for their superstar son. Moreover, nothing is confirmed regarding the English starlet’s relationship status. But at 19, the midfield sensation has his whole life ahead of him.
Interestingly, Kobbie Mainoo might not even be the famous person in his household! His brother Jordan Mainoo-Hames is a celebrity in his own right.
