The team took a dramatic shift in 2020 when Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club. This reinvigorated the team and the players and it came to a head on April 22, 2023, when Wrexham won that victory that would secure them the long-awaited promotion.
Unsurprisingly, the celebrations that followed the win were grand. Recently, Wrexham’s star player Paul Mullin took time to shed some light on what went on behind the scenes.

His owners even described him as “One of the Greatest Football Players in the World”. The 28-year-old recently spoke about the celebrations that followed the massive win.

Revealing the details of their celebration, Mullin stated that everyone was “dancing on chairs”. They had all gathered around in a bar and poured drinks for themselves. Soon, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, along with the players’ families, also joined in on the festivities. Mullin declared that it was “class,” and they were partying together with a speaker at their disposal while “everyone’s on chairs dancing round”.
The promotion to the fourth division is a great achievement for the club, its players, as well as the fans. Wrexham has been going through struggles during its fifth-tier tenure, but the takeover and the resulting success is something that the fans can be extremely proud of. It was a feat that had been celebrated by many. And the level of happiness was undoubtedly high among everyone involved in the promotion win.
