On 31st January 2023, a horrific crash killed four young children and reportedly injured 29 others in a bus accident. After returning from winning a soccer competition, the young soccer players were on their way back. However, tragedy struck, and the bus fell off the bridge to below 30 feet to the ground. One survivor recalled the shocking emotions he went through at that juncture.

The reported authorities said the bus lost its control and hit the barrier, forcing it to fall from the bridge and turned upside down. The incident happened in Alem Paraiba in Brazil when soccer players from the Esporte Clube Vila Maria Helena were on the way back to their homes. A young survivor recalled the incidents that happened during that dreadful day. 

Young soccer player recalls the frightful turn of events

According to the Sun, the 16-year-old survivor explained to TV Integração the events that transpired. Moreover, the front half of the bus received significant damage while he was sitting behind and it turned into a fatal crash. He said, “Everyone was happy with winning the title and, unfortunately, that happened. It was very fast. Everyone was sleeping.”

The four victims who passed away were Thyago Ramos de Oliveira, 15, Andrey Viana da Costa, 15, and 18-year-old Diogo Coutinho Vilar. The youngest of them was 13, named Kaylon da Silva Paixao. According to the fire department, around 31 people were inside the vehicle. It included the driver and coaches. After winning the Ubaporanga National Cup, the children were in celebratory mode when this untoward incident occurred.

Shocking reports came in from a paramedic who was on site. He said, “They were returning from a tournament where they were champions and unfortunately this happened. They were happy and most of them still had their medals around their necks.”

Around 24 wounded children received treatment at Hospital São Salvador. Five of them are still admitted to the hospital, while three of them are critical. Similarly, five children were admitted at Casa de Caridade Leopoldinense, in Leopoldina, out of which they discharged only one.

The bus company LG Turismo offered condolences to the victims’ families and promised to support them unconditionally. The police started the investigation and plans to interrogate the driver of the vehicle. It is one of the most devastating incidents in recent times.
