In recent times, Saudi Arabia is emerging as a prominent soccer destination. This trend began last year with the signing of soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo by Al-Nassr. This move stunned everyone and paved the way for a new trend of soccer greats being linked with Saudi clubs. Lionel Messi, one of the most prominent players in the world, is also one of them.
Lionel Messi is currently a free agent after saying his goodbyes to Paris Saint Germain. With speculations regarding his next destination picking up pace, Saudi club Al-Hilal is looking like the most prominent one. As the star has reportedly received an unbelievable offer of $1.3 billion for two seasons. However, amidst the speculation and rumors, a former Al-Hilal boss has given a bold statement regarding Messi’s move.

Amid all the drama Al-Hilal’s former chairman, Abdullah bin Musaed has surprised everyone by making an exuberant statement praising Ronaldo’s move to Al-Nassr. He has done so while downplaying the possible move of Messi. He believes Lionel Messi’s move will not have the same impact as Ronaldo’s.

In his words, “Even if Messi came to Al-Hilal. We will not see a media momentum like the one that Al Nassr got when they announced the contract with the legend Ronaldo”. Abdullah bin Musaed was the chairman of Al-Hilal from 2002 to 2004 for 18 months. He has been a close supporter of the team since.
The statement given by him, however bold, is not entirely unfounded. When Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr, it was the first time a top-tier star had joined the Saudi Pro League, which made it a massive deal. On top of that, it is also the biggest contract in the history of soccer, $200 million per year. The media frenzy that followed this signing was unprecedented, with millions of fans worldwide keeping an eye on the sport’s happenings in Saudi Arabia.
If Messi moves to Al-Hilal, the response from the media and the world of football may be different from Ronaldo’s reception. However, that does not mean Messi’s move would be any less significant. Given that the offer he’s receiving is more than double what the Portuguese received. But, it remains to be seen whether Messi indeed chooses to join the Saudi Pro League or opt for another destination.
Will we see Lionel Messi in Saudi Pro League?
Messi is stuck in a huge predicament following his exit from PSG. Al-Hilal is really pushing the boundaries with a $1.3 billion offer for two seasons on the table. The enormous sum of money involved in his potential move to the club has created a buzz in the soccer world.
