Manchester United is looking for a striker after Cristiano Ronaldo left the club. Since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013, United is yet to win big and has signed different strikers so far. However, many of those signings were short-term and didn’t help United a lot. Former Arsenal legend has urged the Tampa Bay Buccaneers owners to sign a rival star striker by breaking the bank.

Gunners legend Paul Merson thinks if United want to rise to glory again, then Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane is the answer for them. Regarded as one of the best forwards of this generation, Kane has been sensational for Spurs and the Three Lions. He fits the bill for United with his vast Premier League experience.

Paul Merson wants to see Harry Kane play for Manchester United

The 29-year-old forward has been subject to many transfer speculations, with a host of top European clubs wanting him. However, the Spurs are fortunate to hold on to their prized asset. Many pundits and former players have urged Kane to move away from Spurs for the glory.

Merson, too, wants to see Kane playing for another top club that can fight for glory and reckons Theatre of Dreams as an ideal destination. Gunners legend urged United“I don’t know what I’m missing here. Even if he costs £150million and it’s a four or five-year contract, you are buying over 100 goals. Who else is going to give you that?”

Merson thinks Kane can take United to the next level saying, “If United ever want to catch Manchester City, they’ve got to go and get Kane. Everybody wants a striker and is searching far and wide, but the best centre-forward is staring everybody in the face.”

Merson reckons currently no striker comes close to Kane. He, too, will think of a move if the Spurs don’t pose any challenge for trophies. Signing Kane will guarantee goals, and it will have the same impact as that of Erling Haaland at Manchester City, according to Merson.

Should Manchester United go for Harry Kane?

Erik Ten Haag has made it clear that United should sign a striker for the long term. There should be a proper process to select the striker as per the manager. He wants a younger profile, and it will be interesting to see the response of the Dutch manager if they offer Kane to the United.

Kane has made 412 appearances in all competitions for the Spurs so far, scoring 265 goals and providing 62 assists. He is 63 goals away from becoming an all-time Premier League goalscorer and currently sits third on the list with 198 goals.

The player will bring goals, but age will also matter in the transfer decision. Despite being 29, Kane still can contribute goals for the next 3-4 seasons. He can make United a force to reckon with in Europe. It will be interesting to see if Tampa Bay Buccaneers owners break the bank for a 29-year-old or invest in a young forward.
