Kansas City Current lost the battle with French giants Olympique Lyonnais for Melchie Dumornay. The Haitian international penned a three-year deal, thus remaining with the French side until 2026.

“It has always been my dream to wear the Olympique Lyonnais shirt. I know that this club can allow me to progress and win trophies. I can’t wait to play here and to evolve in particular alongside Wendie Renard. She is a role model for many young players, and I hope to be like her one day,” said Dumornay.

Currently playing at Stade de Reims Féminines, the midfielder will join her new teammates in July. KC Current also wanted to sign the 19-year-old; however, it was Les Fenottes who won the battle.

The Currents were not the only club that admired Dumornay. According to reports, PL giants Chelsea and Manchester United were also keeping tabs on the young midfielder. She had a chance to try her luck in Barclay’s Women’s Super League but opted for a move to Division 1 Feminine.

An opportunity slipped from hands

Dumornay is a talented young midfielder and is excellent on the center half of the pitch. She previously played for AS Tigresses in Burkina Faso before joining Reims.

Since then, she has made 28 appearances, thus scoring 15 goals and assisting four in all competitions. The 2003-born player also got selected for her country at just 17 years old. The Haitian international has played in the U-15, U-17, and U-20 CONCACAF competitions and the 2018 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
