Nowadays, fans are enjoying the third season of the show, which premiered on March 15. Recently, for the promotion of the third season, the players talked about their experience of playing with their own avatars in the game.
Ted Lasso’s stars recall playing their avatars
Phil Dunster, Cristo Fernández, and Kola Bokinni, members of the fictional soccer team AFC Richmond, appeared in an interview with ‘Today’. They gave some details about the show and also brought up playing themselves in the game FIFA 23.
The host brought up the topic of them playing with their avatar at Jason Sudeikis a.k.a Ted Lasso’s house. To this Phil Dunster, who plays Jamie Tartt in the show, replied by saying, ” I do it,” with a smile on his face. Kola Bokinni, who plays Isaac McAdoo, had the best story, recalling the time he didn’t even know what an avatar was.
“You know, I didn’t know what avatar meant until I was in FIFA,” Bokinni said. “He’s like, you’re an avatar and I was like, wait, I’m not blue”. Following the hilarious statement, everyone had a good laugh at that. He further added, “But basically, it’s a dream come true. I’ve been playing it since, well, for about 25 years”.
All of it just goes to show how passionate these guys are about soccer – and Ted Lasso. While Ted lasso has certainly made waves around the world, there’s also someone doing it in real life.
The real-life Ted Lasso
In the show, the main character is Ted Lasso, an NFL coach who is hired to train a professional soccer team despite having no prior knowledge of the sport. This same premise is also being applied to real life by Ryan Reynolds, who bought the Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC in 2020.

Wrexham was struggling in the fifth division of English soccer at the time. However, they have since been on the rise under Reynolds’ ownership. This story is quite similar to what Jason Sudeikis does in the show. The similarity between the two stories is pretty clear, and it’s no wonder that many people consider Ryan Reynolds to be the real-life Ted Lasso.
