The English Premier League is in its crucial middle phase. Even though it may not seem decisive, clashes from here can potentially decide the final standings. Two of the best players in the league, Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland, go head-to-head against each other today. And whoever wins will take their teams to a better position. As the fixture gets ready, a former Premier League player chose Haaland over Salah to be a better finisher.

Liverpool versus Manchester City could never be a dull fixture. The Reds are the only team that has given the treble-winners a run for their money in the last few years. And Mohammed Salah has been their anchor. Since Haaland has taken the league by surprise, the debate between the two stars is on.

It’s just one point that separated Manchester City from Liverpool on the points table this season. But the competition between the two attackers, Salah and Haaland, can potentially decide the result. Comparing their abilities, former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop feels that Erling Haaland is a better finisher than the Egyptian captain. The former Premier League icon stated, “In all seriousness, one-on-one, at the last minute, I think Erling Haaland is a better finisher. There’s so little between these two, but I’m leaning into Erling Haaland.”

In a podcast with ESPN FC, Shaka was asked who is the better finisher if it is one-on-one with the goalkeeper. His response was that the 2023 Ballon d’Or runner-up was better, but he also clarified that there was very little difference between them.

Additionally, Shaka also added that Salah was an incredible finisher, but his style was different than Haaland’s. For him, the City striker was a strong, powerful finisher, whereas Salah is the one with finesse and cheekiness in his finishes.

Hislop’s other takes on the game

Shaka Hislop also gave his opinion that Manchester City would win the game by a narrow margin of 2-1. However, an ESPN writer also on the show, Mark Ogden, chose the other side, giving Liverpool a 2-1 or a 3-1 win. Liverpool has an advantage head-to-head overall, but Manchester City has been one of the best teams in the world under Pep Guardiola recently.
