Alex Morgan has once again found herself making headlines. While the reigning champs are preparing for the upcoming World Cup, the USWNT skipper, alongside Marcus Rashford, and Vinicius Junior have been nominated for France Football’s Socrates Award for their charity work over the last year.

The Socrates Award rewards players for their charity work outside of football. Indeed, it’s a notable recognition of the USWNT star’s works ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Morgan was named among the candidates due to her work with the Alex Morgan Foundation.

Alex Morgan is an iconic figure in American women’s soccer. The USWNT star recently shocked the world after getting nominated for the Socrates Award. Morgan is notable for empowering and supporting women and girls in the community. She launched her own foundation to provide support, empowerment, and an example for young girls and mothers.

The Alex Morgan Foundation aims to help girls and women find confident paths forward in sports and life. Apart from the foundation, she has also previously spoken out in support of trans players and rights. With no surprise, Alex has contributed a lot to support and empower females.

Owing to all her charity work from last year, Morgan has been nominated for the Socrates Award. The award acknowledges humanitarian work by players around the globe. Interestingly, Sadio Mane was the first winner of the Socrates Award.

A total of five nominees have been named for the award. Besides the two-time World Cup winner, Marcus Rashford, Vinicius Junior, Asisat Oshoala, and Antonio Rudiger have also been named as nominees for the Socrates Award.

The Manchester United legend is renowned for his work helping feed children in the UK with the Child Food Poverty Task Force. In 2019, Marcus helped create the ‘In the Box’ campaign – an initiative to supply homeless people with much-needed essentials over the Christmas period.

Moreover, Rashford’s campaign even influenced the government to provide free meals to vulnerable children back in 2020. Whereas Vinicius Junior has also done his fair share of work for society with the Vini Jr. Institute. The Brazilian launched an education app back in 2021 to help poor and troubled students. The Institute helped kids from a very tough educational atmosphere.

Besides Vincius Jr, Rudiger is another Real Madrid player nominated for the award. Rudiger has been helping in Sierra Leona via the Antonio Rudiger Foundation. Indeed, Rashford and Vinicius Junior are the favorites in comparison to other Socrates Awards nominees.
