Switzerland is widely pipped to be the ongoing Euro’s dark horse, that can knock out a heavyweight English team. After a series of abysmal games, England gave fans a glimmer of hope, as Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane came up clutch to beat Slovakia in the round of 16. But that did not end England’s woes, as their ace right-back Kieran Trippier took a knock to his knee during the Slovakia tie. Star center-back John Stones also left the field with a strapping on his right knee after beating Slovakia. What is the current status of these aces who took a blow to their knees? Let’s dive deeper.
The sore knee is a new injury woe for Kieran Trippier, as he has already been struggling with a calf injury this tournament. Anyhow, per his recent statement to the press, there is a chance for him to feature against Switzerland. “I think I’ll be fine. It’s just about recovering. We have five or six days until the next game. This took a lot out of us mentally, going into extra time. But it shows the character of this team,” said Trippier. Although there is no update from Gareth Southgate’s side, he would probably start Trippier like he did in all of England’s four games.

In yet another positive update for the English fans, John Stones could also lace up for the tricky Switzerland tie. Despite donning a heavy strapping on his right knee, Stones trained with his teammates before the quarter-finals. Moreover, he assured reporters in a pre-game presser that his injury won’t be a problem in the Switzerland game.

Gareth Southgate on Luke Shaw’s coveted return for England
As per renowned soccer journalist Henry Winter, Gareth Southgate said Luke Shaw is available to start against Switzerland tonight. Southgate also added that he is not worried if the Manchester United ace will break down during the action. Kieran Trippier has notably served in the left-back position to compensate for Shaw’s absence during these games. Since the United star is eligible to start against Switzerland, there is a chance for Trippier to start on the bench and return later.
Luke Shaw “is available to start”, Gareth Southgate says, but adds “Kieran Trippier has also done a brilliant job for the team. His leadership, his communication, his talking (to those on the left) is phenomenal”. #ENG #EURo2024 #ENGSWI

Meanwhile, Southgate has to compensate for Marc Guehi’s absence for the Switzerland tie, as the center-back will sit out to serve a yellow card ban. It remains to be seen who will replace Guehi. With Shaw available for play, England will go through a major defensive shuffle for tonight.
