The Lionel Messi-PSG love affair is nearly ending with the current state of affairs. Ever since the club knocked itself out of the UEFA Champions League, the fans showed displeasure towards the players. And Messi is at the center of the picture. Moreover, he remains the scapegoat for their current poor form.

Despite being one of their better players, the talented Argentinian could not help Paris Saint Germain qualify for the next round. Therefore, things are messy at the French soccer club. And now, a former French international blasts fans for their treatment.

Emmanuel Petit won the World Cup with his national in 1998. However, he cannot comprehend the treatment of fans towards Lionel. This is not the first time the fans booed the player. It prompted a response from the legendary player. He also threw them under the bus, stating they are a ‘pre-retirement club.’

French legend blasts PSG fans for booing Lionel Messi

The club spent millions making a sensational trio of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Messi possible. Yet, things have not panned out smoothly. The latest defeat to Lyon in the Ligue 1 saw Messi booed in the build-up to the game. Hearing this, Petit went on a rant in support of the sensational Argentinian. According to RMC sport, he commented, “When I hear that, for me, it’s an insult to football.”

The former midfielder didn’t shy away from putting his thoughts on a plate. He also mentioned PSG’s failure is not on the players but on the club itself. He continued, “It’s not a football club. It’s a pre-retirement club, even for 20-year-old players. Nobody has improved while at PSG, is that Messi’s fault? He’s the magician with a wand, it’s up to the players around him to make an effort.”
