For every up, there is a down. Following a remarkable era, the USWNT had to face a challenging phase. After the team’s failure at the World Cup 2023, the team needed a saving grace and it has now come in the form of Emma Hayes as head coach. The former Chelsea manager has generated significant excitement and anticipation, quickly becoming a favorite among fans. The 47-year-old’s legendary career might not have been possible without the unwavering support of her family. Here we are exploring all about the English coach’s family life.

All about Emma Hayes’ supportive family

Emma Hayes was born on October 18, 1976, to Sid and Miriam Hayes. Her father, hailing from Somers Town in London, managed the family’s foreign exchange business and was a steadfast supporter of soccer. He fully endorsed his daughter’s aspirations in the sport until his passing at the age of 82. In honor of her father, the London-born expressed heartfelt sentiments: “You will forever be my champion, and while there is a huge hole in my heart I will carry the learnings and the love and will continue to make you proud. Love you papa. RIP.”

Emma’s mother, Miriam Hayes, now approximately 78 years old, grew up in Camden Town and received her education at Richard Cobden School. A devoted Chelsea FC supporter herself, she was moved to tears when her daughter secured her position with the club. The family dynamic is further enriched by the ex-Chelsea boss’ two sisters: Rebecca and Victoria—her elder sister and younger sister respectively.

Just like her parents, the Hayes sisters have also been significant pillars of support throughout her career. Emma Hayes is also a proud mother of one son, Harry. Although she was initially expecting twins, she experienced the heartbreaking loss of her second child during pregnancy.

As Emma Hayes prepares to lead the U.S. Women’s National Team into the Paris Olympics 2024—a milestone that represents not only a great professional achievement but also fulfills an aspiration cherished by her late father.

The USWNT boss fulfilled her late father’s dream at the Paris Olympics

Just ahead of the Paris Olympic Games, Emma Hayes engaged in a meaningful conversation with Sam Mewis about the significance of this tournament to both herself and her late father. She expressed gratitude by stating, “I owe so much to the biggest feminist in my life, my father, who was busy counting players in the Olympics that I’d coached. He said ‘You never know, one day… .'”

This aspiration is now coming to fruition as she leads the USWNT toward their potential fifth Gold Medal at the Paris Olympics. Significantly, it was also her father’s encouragement that helped shape Hayes’s decision to accept the role with USWNT.

In a poignant moment right before his passing, he gave his blessing saying, “If the United States comes up girl, are you going to take it?” Emma Hayes at that time replied with ‘Yes.’  Much to many people’s delight and support—she indeed accepted this remarkable challenge.
