If it wasn’t for fate, Ollie Palmer would have been at Chelsea today. Yes, Wrexham’s very own funny Palmer, who actually had a chance to play at Stamford Bridge. However, destiny had something else for him, as he is now playing for the Welsh club. This dates back to 2011, when Palmer was just 20.

The Blues were under the leadership of interim coach Roberto Di Matteo, who reportedly sent scouts to watch the striker. At that time, Palmer was playing for the non-league teams. The player himself revealed about the Blues’, “I had two calls to say Chelsea were watching me, which is exciting,” as stated by The Mirror and Sports Mole.

However, Chelsea didn’t move forward with his signing and later signed Fernando Torres in the January 2011 transfer window. The Londoners bought the Spanish striker for £50 million, which unfortunately flopped as he failed to make an impact. Meanwhile, Palmer moved from Woking to Havant and went on to play for a number of National League clubs until he signed for Wrexham in 2022.

He’ll be looking to make an impact for the Welsh side, especially during the fixture against Chelsea.
