RCD Espanyol has stepped up to make a significant difference. This time, it’s not about goals on the field, but rather about providing a lifeline to those who need it the most. The Barcelona-based club’s recent noble gesture has brought them into the headlines. Apparently, just hours ago, the Catalan side played their La Liga fixture against Real Valladolid.
However, before the match, instead of taking small kids as mascots, the starting XI entered the pitch with 11 dogs in their arms. This initiative came after the club decided to find homes for these stray puppies. The players even clicked a routine pre-match picture with these adorable puppies.

Additionally, home fans in the stadium even gave a standing applause to Espanyol players for their heartwarming gesture. Be that as it may, it was a touching act from the Spanish side. Consequently, they were awarded for their noble cause as they managed to clinch a 2-0 victory against Real Valladolid.
While this is the first time a Spanish club has taken such an initiative, it’s not the first instance of a soccer club implementing this idea.

Earlier in 2021, the Russian side Zenit St Petersburg came up with a similar idea in an attempt to get homeless dogs a new family. Before their game against FC Rostov, the initial lineup once more entered the field while holding dogs in their arms. Zenit collaborated with the Russian Kynological Foundation to provide shelter for stray dogs.
