8 years ago, Steven Fletcher was a key component at Sunderland. Fletcher back then was a constant attacking threat for the Black Cats in the previous season making him a fan favourite. However, in the 2015-2016 season, Sunderland performed well below their expectations.
The club was languishing at the bottom of the table which is when Fletcher’s photograph with his $324,400 supercar went viral. Fletcher hence in a moment of madness decided to sell off his Lamborghini Aventador for a modest 4×4. The striker did so to win over his fans and he definitely did. When asked a year later if he regretted ditching his supercar, he said no with the utmost confidence.
All said and done, Fletcher seems to be the perfect profile for a club like Wrexham. The veteran striker is the perfect balance of on-field leadership and goals along with off-field charisma. Coach Phil Parkinson agreed the same.

After the heartbreak at midnight, not many expected Wrexham to bounce back with a top signing. Luckily for Phil Parkinson, his team management didn’t disappoint as they gave him the perfect backup for Paul Mullin. “I’m really pleased with the addition of Steve to the squad. He’s missed football through pre-season but he’s trained today with the lads and it’s good to have him on board,” shared the gaffer post-Fletcher’s arrival.
Over the 19 years of his playing career, Fletcher has scored a whopping 184 goals which speaks a lot about his pedigree. Moreover, he has also had large stints in the Premier League and Championship making him a quality signing for a League 2 side like Wrexham. “His pedigree speaks for itself, and he’s played most of his career at a very high level. He’s an excellent professional and that’s really important to fit in with the group here,” agreed Parkinson with excitement in his tone.
