Following last week’s defeat against Accrington Stanley, their third defeat in the league, Wrexham has to contend with an even more severe problem. Ryan Reynold’s men are going through an injury crisis, with five players set for a spell on the sidelines. Worst of all, they are unavailable for selection in the critical encounter against Morecambe, a match that could define the Welsh soccer club’s season.

Wrexham started the season strongly, just as they left off in the National League. Moreover, with an attack scoring nearly two goals per game, Wrexham was amongst the most exciting teams to watch. However, the recent injuries seem to have halted their momentum.

The injury report does not look favorable for Wrexham. Jordan Tunnicliffe, the defender, not only suffered a calf injury during the USA tour but also experienced a further setback. Conceding goals has been an issue for Wrexham, and his absence is a critical reason. Wrexham also won’t be able to count on the services of midfielder Tom O’Connor, who got injured at the weekend.

Among the long-term absentees, center-back Eoghan O’Connell is back on the grass but still far from match-ready. Likewise, Ryan Barnett was injured in the match against Notts County, and the wing-back is out of the knee brace but was still a few weeks off returning to action.

Summer signing Steven Fletcher is perhaps the biggest miss for Wrexham. The Scottish striker emerged as a vital man for coach Phil Parkinson and made ten appearances so far. However, issues with his knee caused him to undergo knee surgery, with a recovery period yet to be specified. The latest update is that he is making good progress.

Off-the-pitch issues seem to be curtailing Ryan Reynolds’ men

Injuries are not the only thing going wrong for Wrexham. Recently, they were involved in a spat with Lancashire-based club Accrington Stanley. Stanley had raised the ticket prices for their encounter against Wrexham. Wrexham jokingly responded on social media, stating they would reduce the ticket price. This joke did not go down well with chairman Andy Holt, who slammed Wrexham for their ‘stupid’ comments.

Fittingly, Accrington Stanley also ended Wrexham’s winning streak, which significantly altered their momentum. The injuries and recent results have affected the confidence of the players. Perhaps they are suffering burnout from playing without rest? Regardless, Wrexham’s match against Morecambe is crucial to their hopes of securing direct promotion. It is a game that Ryan Reynolds would probably keep an eye on.
