Former US President Donald Trump was perhaps the most notable figure to mock USWNT and Megan Rapinoe. His Truth Social App post was the talk of the town. Amid all this, the comments of the Swedish vice-captain have surfaced.

Sweden ousted the two-time defending champions in a scintillating display. Megan Rapinoe missed a crucial penalty that gave an advantage to the European team. The Blue and Yellow ended the dreams of the US of achieving the unthinkable – the three-peat. However, Sweden’s superstar has defended the Stars and Stripes.

USWNT gets unexpected support

Tobin Heath has shared a heartwarming interview with Sweden’s vice-captain, Kosovare Asllani. The Sweden player who plays for AC Milan defended the US team over the criticism from fans and others. While speaking to Heath, Asllani said, “The US national team are pioneers. You’re raising the game. You’re opening doors for the rest of the community, the rest of the world.”

She recalled a conversation with an American journalist: “You’re first with everything. And I had an interview with an American journalist yesterday, and he was talking so much that the question I was is, how can you ask me this? He asks that basically, the women, the US are talking about the American team is so over, you know, blah blah blah. And I was like, don’t talk s**t about the American team.”

“You had an incredible team. Also, you had a great game. We had an amazing goalkeeper. You’re raising the game on every level, on and off the pitch, especially off the pitch. This is what needs to be taken,” Asllani slammed the journalist while praising the defending champions.

The former Real Madrid star coming to the defense of USWNT caught the attention of many. Her comments came at the right time with many taking a dig at the USWNT, including Donald Trump. 

Donald Trump takes the opportunity to ridicule outspoken Megan Rapinoe

USWNT was leading at 3-2 when Rapinoe stepped up to take the fourth penalty. It was a chance for the retiring superstar to put herself and USWNT into the driving seat. But she missed it, to the dismay of her team and the fans. Former President Donald Trump took the opportunity to jeer at the outspoken US soccer icon.

In a scathing attack, the former president wrote a social media post on the Truth Social App. He dedicated the last line to Rapinoe. Trump wrote, “Nice shot Megan, the USA is going to Hell!!! MAGA,” taking a dig at the missed penalty from the OL Reign forward. The fans will hope the team comes back stronger after the dismal World Cup campaign.
