Marcus Rashford has found himself the center of attraction after he was photographed partying late at night in Belfast right before the Manchester United FA Cup clash last week. His actions did not sit well with the club, which took action against the player. However, it seems things have settled after the Englishman formally apologized. Despite the club closing the case, Arsenal icon Paul Merson provided his two cents on the issue, claiming Rashford needs to stop ruining his career.

Amongst other legends, United icon Roy Keane surprisingly jumped to the player’s defense earlier this week. Keane, during the latest episode of the Overlap, claimed the fans had made the player a scapegoat, as he was easy to target following his idiotic mistake from last week. Yet, Merson voiced his opinions on the matter.

Arsenal icon Paul Merson was not too pleased with Marcus Rashford after the player was caught partying before Manchester United’s FA Cup clash last week. Merson commented on the Rashford situation during an interview. “I back a lot of players because of what’s going on in their minds. You don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. You can’t miss training, you can’t. I can’t back him on that. And then you read the stories about them going back at three o’clock in the morning,” stated Merson.

Merson then questioned the player’s form this season, claiming he could perform as well as the Englishman based on his performances this season. “The lad’s got the biggest talent in the world. Last year, he was unplayable. This year, I’m sure I can do as well as he’s doing this season. He’s got four or five years. He can go and party as much as he wants after. Don’t ruin it,” said Merson.

While several soccer icons agree with Merson’s opinion and have taken a similar approach, former United star Roy Keane believes the player is young and made a mistake that most people his age would make.

Roy Keane defends Rashford amidst massive criticism

Paul Merson is not the only one who’s questioned Marcus Rashford’s actions from last week. The player faced criticism from prominent figures like Rio Ferdinand and Alan Shearer after the club took disciplinary action against him. Keane, on the other hand, defended Rashford from the criticism, claiming that it was easy to target the player, considering the club was going through a rough patch.

He claimed the player is just 26 years old and will be likely to make mistakes in his career. However, he did close things off by stating it was a silly mistake by the Englishman, and he does not seem like a guy to make ludicrous blunders. What are your thoughts on the Marcus Rashford fiasco?
