It has been a different life for pop star Shakira since she split from soccer legend Gerard Pique. While Pique has been enjoying his retired soccer life, Shakira has been fully focused on her music career and being a dedicated mother to her children. This newfound juggling act has proven to be quite a tumultuous task for the talented singer, who recently opened up about the struggle of balancing work and family life.
The Colombian singer has seen her music career soar this year. With the release of several hit songs, the artist recently celebrated her success by winning two awards at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). Taking home the coveted Best Collaboration Award and the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Shakira has undoubtedly been the talk of the town. However, behind the glitz and glam, the 46-year-old has faced her fair share of difficulties.

The Latin artist recently sat down in a candid interview with Billboard. During the interview, she addressed the question of how her music has flourished since her split with the Barcelona legend. According to Shakira, when she was still with Pique, her music career took a backseat and was considered her third priority.
She explained, “The last time I released an album was six years ago”. The pop superstar further added, “Now I can release music at a faster clip”. Although her career has taken off, Shakira acknowledges the drawbacks of her newfound single life. She admitted, “Although sometimes I think being a single mom and the rhythm of a pop star aren’t compatible”.
She further pointed out, “When you don’t have a husband who can stay home with the kids, it’s constant juggling because I like to be a present mom and I need to be there every moment with my children: take them to school, have breakfast with them, take them to play dates. And aside from that, I have to make money”. Shakira acknowledges the demands of both her career and her family.
Despite these challenges, Shakira remains determined and committed to both her music career and her children. She knows that she needs to find a balance between the two and make it work. However, there’s still a regret lingering for the mother of two.

During the same interview, Shakira opened up about one of her deepest regrets. And that is not being able to raise her children alongside their father. When asked if she would eventually view her breakup with Pique in a more positive light, the ‘Waka-Waka’ singer responded by acknowledging that “nothing can compensate for the pain of destroying a family”.
She expressed that her ultimate dream “was to raise my sons with their father. Overcome obstacles and grow old together”.Her children have also been her top priority and the singer continues to make sure of their happiness. She remains determined to pursue her passion for music while being the best mother she can be.
