As Lionel Messi’s former teammate, Henry revealed that the Argentine had a winning mentality, and you should not mess with him by not having it.

In a podcast hosted by Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, and Micah Richards called The Rest is Football, Henry said, “Leo was demanding, not very talkative, but don’t F around with him. He wants to win. Me, you, or anyone, don’t F around with what he’s trying to build.”

Henry specified that FC Barcelona was very particular about winning. Playing with Messi was a no-nonsense approach where everyone was trying to win for the team and not become the center of attention, claimed Henry. Henry also said that players in Barcelona wanted good teammates rather than good friends.

Henry felt when Leo is trying to build a legacy by winning, you only be a good team person, but do not try to mess around. Henry said that Messi did not talk that much, but always meant business while playing the sport.

Messi is a freak

When asked about the ease of playing with Messi, Henry said Messi was like some of the “freaks” he played with, like Dennis Bergkamp.

Henry meant that sometimes they would do certain extraordinary things, like dribbling past players and scoring goals without passing the ball. Henry said, “Leo, there is nothing complicated, nothing difficult. The guy was a freak. I won everything with him.”

But Henry concluded and said that sometimes it may go wrong. Even in that case, you would be good and just think about winning because Messi makes you win. Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona won the Treble in the year 2009 with both Messi and Henry in it.
