Ryan Reynolds is making rounds for two reasons. First, his soccer club, Wrexham AFC, has earned a promotion to League Two, and second, surprising news around his Ottawa Senators bid. The Deadpool star was in contention to buy the NHL franchise that attracted a positive reaction from the NHL commissioner a few months back.
However, in a surprising turn of events, the Deadpool star has withdrawn from the bidding process for the Senators. It might come as a significant setback to the NHL. Reynolds was in the bidding process with real estate giants Remington Developers. Reports suggested the bid was going to be in the North of $1 billion. But Reynolds and Remington have withdrawn after NHL denied a one-month window.

Bettman spoke to ESPN last December and heaped praise on the Deadpool star. “He’s very smart, he has a number of businesses besides the acting business, and he understands sports, and he understands promotion,” Bettman told ESPN. “I think he told us his followers on all of his platforms combined was well over 100 million. So he’s somebody who is very popular and very engaged, and he’s doing a great job with Wrexham,” Bettman added.
The recent news will come as a setback to Bettman. However, the glamour around the bidding process will continue with Snoop Dogg aggressively pursuing the deal. Canadian singer The Weekend is also in the race. It will be interesting to see who wins the bid for the NHL franchise. Reynolds, after pulling out of the bidding process, will be in London to cheer for the National League rivals.
