Meet Aitana Bonmati’s mom Rosa and dad Vicent

Aitana Bonmati is the only child of Rosa Bonmati Guidonet and Vicent Conca i Ferras who are both teachers. When Aitana was born in 1998, her parents were leading a movement against a Spanish law regarding the naming of children, which allows only the father’s name as the child’s first surname. The couple were so adamant in their fight that, Rosa Bonmati declared she was a single parent and raised the Spanish striker as Aitana Bonmati. Fortunately, the Spanish law changed two years after the striker’s birth. Rosa and Vicente’s social commitment did not stop with challenging a draconian naming law.

Bonmati’s father, Vicente, was a campaigner for the Movement for the Defence of Land. It is a coalition of various socialist organizations championing Catalonian independence. The 26-year-old, who plays for FC Barcelona Femeni has surely inherited the Catalan spirit from her parents. She even donned the colors of the Catalonia women’s football team in two friendly games. The Catalonia team, notably, is not affiliated to the UEFA and FIFA, and is also allowed to play friendlies. Hence, Bonmati remains an attacking anchor in the Spain WNT.
