Being a top-level sporting athlete comes with a lot of behind-the-scenes sacrifice. From countless hours in the gym and training to missing important family functions due to matches; being a sportsman comes with immense responsibility and renouncement. Something similar happened with Cristiano Ronaldo last week when he had to ditch an important family event organized by his sister for his Al Nassr duties.

The family function in question is the baptism of his sister Katia Aveiro’s 4-year-old daughter. The soccer veteran is known to be extremely religious and family-oriented. Hence missing his niece’s once-in-a-lifetime event must have been immensely hurtful for him and his sister. However, as always, CR7 came in clutch with a last-minute message that made up for his absence.

This special occasion also marked her baptism which was witnessed by several family members in Funchal, Madeira. The notable miss was obviously Cristiano Ronaldo but luckily for him, he made it up with an emotional message, as revealed by his sister to CMTV.

Early morning on the day of the baptism, Ronaldo sent a message apologizing for his absence while reassuring her. “Already [sent a message]. Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo led Al Nassr to their maiden Arab Club Champions Cup, many expected them to continue their form in the SPL. Surprisingly, they started off their league campaign in the worst possible manner with two back-to-back losses. What’s worse was that CR7 missed those matches with an injury.

Hence when he found himself fit again, he prioritised Al Nassr over the baptism since he was committed to getting the Saudi giants back on track. Luckily for him, he has done that so far in the best possible manner by scoring a hat trick and a brace in the last two games. What’s impressive has been his all-round performance. He looks sharper and fitter than ever!
