Kylian Mbappe must be as puzzled as the fans are. Despite a stunning hat trick in his last match, coach Luis Enrique was not delighted with his performance. While the former Spain boss did not reveal what made him particularly unhappy, he remarked that he wanted more from the superstar. French boss Didier Deschamps is the latest to join in on the matter. Deschamps voiced his opinions but has made his thoughts clear on the matter.
Questions were raised about the Frenchman’s future at PSG after they barred him from first-team training in pre-season. However, Mbappe proved his critics wrong with his performances, skyrocketing PSG to the top of the table. With 13 goals, no player has scored more in the league than Mbappe. Yet, all this makes his criticism rather puzzling.

Didier Deschamps opted for a careful choice of words while responding to the Mbappe story. He said, “He (Enrique) said what he said, in the way he said. I’m not saying that it’s not good what Luis Enrique did, I can do it differently. It could happen. It’s not just Kylian.”
Deschamps also gave insights on what he demands of Mbappe and other attackers. He added, “The attackers may not be particularly efficient, but to be decisive, that’s what we ask of the attackers.“
Judging from his words, Deschamps seems to prefer output on the table first and foremost. It also hints that he would have approached the situation differently from Enrique. More interestingly, Deschamps might also have revealed the problem that could be impacting Kylian Mbappe.
Deschamps stated that the frequency of matches every 3-4 days impacts player performance. It is especially true for players like Kylian, who rely on their pace and explosiveness. His performance against AC Milan recently had hints of fatigue. It is a sharp contrast to his wing partner, who became their marquee summer signing.

Ousmane Dembele’s forgettable start to life at PSG
PSG fans had big expectations regarding the Mbappe-Dembele duo. After all, the French wingers have demonstrated their chemistry for the national team. However, after 15 matches, Dembele is yet to score a goal for the club. It has resulted in Mbappe bearing the brunt of the goal-scoring responsibility.
Interestingly, Luis Enrique has expressed his admiration for the former Barcelona winger. He said, “He can improve, yes, but I’m in love with his game. I’m not worried.” Despite the confidence expressed by the manager, Dembele hasn’t justified the $53m transfer fee. With all the focus on PSG’s UCL chances, it is high time the Frenchman steps up his game. Do you think Deschamps is right?
