Emma Hayes has a lot of pressure on her back after taking over the head coach position at USWNT. Just weeks after taking charge, Hayes had the harsh job of potential Olympic aspirants to pick her 18-women squad. While most of her players seem ready, there have been some questions over the selection of Korbin Albert. The midfielder found herself in hot waters earlier this month after posting controversial content on social media. However, despite criticism against the 20-year-old, Trinity Rodman believes Albert has done her part to earn her place in the team.
Rodman touched down on the controversy surrounding Korbin Albert after the midfielder posted an anti-LGBTQ post on Tiktok. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the USMNT star stated, “I like to say social media is a great place, but a dangerous place. Having strong opinions is difficult, especially when you are looked at a lot and you have a platform to do so. Obviously getting booed is horrible, but there’s people that have their opinions and have their beliefs and they’re not always going to match up with those.”

Following the controversy, Korbin quickly took down the post from her social media before issuing a public apology. The player has been in fine form this season and deserves to be a part of the national setup. In the same interview, Trinity Rodman backed her fellow teammate, claiming the team will do their all to support the youngster.

Former USWNT players were displeased with Korbin’s actions on social media with the likes of Megan Rapinoe and Julie Foundy questioning her actions. Many former players urged the US Association to take strict action against the player. However, it seems like things have simmered down following Korbin’s apology. Trinity Rodman talked about Albert traveling with the team to Paris while adding the midfielder knows the importance of playing for her country.

Rodman stated, “Even if you’re in the spotlight, it doesn’t mean you believe the same things as everybody else. But yeah, for us, she’s on the US women’s national team and we’re going to be her teammates and support her. When she comes on the field, she’s just like everybody else wearing that number and playing for our country, and she’s working her butt off to do so.”
Fans hope Korbin Albert can give her all during the upcoming tournament. The USWNT team under Emma Hayes will be chasing their first gold medal in the event since 2012. United States had a rough World Cup campaign in 2022 and the team will be eager to prove their critics wrong in Paris.
