It’s been a head-rush of a transfer window in England. Not just for the Premier League but also the lower leagues in the country. While Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Man United announced their signings, Wrexham AFC in EFL League Two also could have made a swoop, like none other, on deadline day.

Wrexham have been very active in the transfer window, with the club signing seven players in total, with George Evans, Arthur Okonkwo and James McClean being the standout buys. The Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny owned club submitted a last minute bid for a new striker on deadline day, but unfortunately the deal fell through.

The player in contention was Harrogate Town forward Luke Armstrong. The club bid an undisclosed fee for $432,000-rated Armstrong as per reports, with $350 million worth Ryan Reynolds breaking the bank to sign him. Harrogate Town even stated that Armstrong would be joining Wrexham. But now, Wrexham have released a statement stipulating why the move didn’t materialize. The statement as released on Wrexham’s official handle on X, linking their official website stated:

“Wrexham AFC can confirm terms were agreed to sign Harrogate Town striker Luke Armstrong on Transfer Deadline Day, with paperwork submitted for his signing. Unfortunately, the required documentation and clearance requests could not be completed in time and his registration has been rejected,” said the statement.

“As a result, Luke remains a Harrogate Town player. The Club would like to thank the player for choosing to join Wrexham earlier in the day and are disappointed that this cannot now happen (pending any appeal). No further comment will be made at this time,” the statement iterated.

This news may be heartbreaking Wrexham fans. The club had to contend with their star striker Paul Mullin getting injured in preseason after suffering a punctured lung. Mullin sustained the injury against Man United in Wrexham’s US tour. But it’s certain that watching Mullin and Luke Armstrong perhaps being strike partners would have been something Wrexham fans would have relished.

But perhaps all is not lost for the Welsh club. According to reports, Paul Mullin has started training with the squad.  This news will certainly be a ray of hope for the club’s fanbase. Mullin has been dubbed as the “Non-league Haaland” by fans across the spectrum. And it looks like Wrexham’s season could be back on track after Mullin returns.
