David Beckham has donned many hairstyles over the years. From golden hair locks to braids, the Englishman has rarely shied from expressing his fashion sense. During his stay at Old Trafford, however, an English company was left red-faced after Becks decided to go bald, in what was one of his most iconic styles. This happened despite the company signing a $6 million deal with the former Manchester United star.

In the old days, when soccer was known for its roughness, Beckham brought a change with his fashion trends and choices. One can call Beckham to be a torchbearer in normalising fashion for soccer players.

In 1997, Brylcreem inked a lucrative $6 million deal with David Beckham. The hair product company wanted to leverage his soaring fame and especially his high-profile relationship with Posh Spice aka Victoria Beckham. In the following year, however, Beckham decided to drop his golden locks and shave his head. A not so good move for a hair product company. Although this wasn’t the only reason behind the strained relationship.

Additionally, in 1998, Beckham’s reputation took a nosedive during the World Cup. He received a red card for a dramatic clash with Diego Simeone in a match against Argentina. This led to England’s penalty shootout defeat. Beckham later stated he was haunted by the incident.

In 1999, Brylcreem dropped a bombshell as they announced their plans to part ways with Beckham. While they claimed his shaved head wasn’t the direct cause, it was evident that endorsing a hair styling product with a bald spokesperson was a questionable marketing move. There were rumors of him losing millions due to this, but Victoria Beckham then cleared that the speculations held no truth.
