The dark clouds continue to surround FC Barcelona. Just moments ago, the Spanish side participated in their Christmas-friendly game against Club America. In a shocking turn of events, Xavi’s side suffered a shocking 2–3 defeat against the Mexican club. However, Barcelona won’t be departing Dallas with their heads down, as the silver lining is that the club secured nearly $5 million. The reason why Barcelona traveled 5175 miles to play this friendly was to generate funds for the victims affected by Hurricane Otis.

Both sides stepped up to raise funds for over 50 people who lost their lives and billions of dollars worth of damage. Aside from the noble cause, the Catalans have managed to grab their own financial reward as well. As promised, the club will be rewarded $5 million for taking part in this charity match in the 92,000-seat Cotton Bowl Stadium.

This is certainly a huge boost for them during such tough financial times. Notably, La Maisa stars took the spotlight, with 16-year-old Lamine Yamal’s goal giving Barcelona the lead in the 6th minute and Marc Guiu doubling the scoreline. However, their efforts went in vain, as a brace from Julian Quinones and Henry Martin’s winner in the 82nd minute sealed the victory for Club America. While it might be a friendly, it raises concerns over the team’s recent form.

Time isn’t with FC Barcelona at the moment. After winning La Liga last year, things have been relatively shaky for the Catalans. They are currently sitting in third place with just 38 points behind Real Madrid and Girona, who are both tied at 45 points. Additionally, Xavi and Co. closely qualified for the Champions League knockouts and will face Napoli in the round of 16.

Players like Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha are having a hard time finding the back of the net. The Polish international has been goalless in seven out of the last nine league games; on the other hand, the Brazilian winger has scored just three goals in 17 appearances. Whatever it may be, the club must find a way to solve its problems with urgency. Otherwise, it’s going to be a trophyless season for the Blaugrana.
