Kylian Mbappe single-handedly decided PSG’s victory over Reims. His 16-th career hat trick propelled them to the top of the league. However, coach Luis Enrique is not happy with his performance. The former Spain boss believes the ‘world-class player’ can help the team in other ways. Despite Enrique’s intentions to get more out of his star player, a soccer expert at ESPN believes that he is fighting a losing cause.

Despite Luis Enrique not revealing more about Mbappe, the problem is evident, his work rate. Craig Burley of ESPN believes that Enrique might not get what he wants out of Kylian. Burley said, “I would imagine that he (Enrique) may be fighting a bit of a losing battle here“. He added that French Boss Deschamps had to work around Mbappe’s flaws outside possession and Enrique might have to go down the same route. While Burley does not seem to agree with this approach, judging by his comments, it might be the only option for Enrique.
This is not the first time Kylian Mbappe has been questioned about his work rate. Back in 2021, Jamie Carragher lashed out at the PSG man after his performance against Man City. He said, “I get frustrated watching it [PSG’s style} and Mbappe more than anyone“. He added, “I just can’t accept that no matter how good they are they don’t work for the team. Because them days of carrying passengers are long gone.”
Carragher’s comments accurately picture what Luis Enrique would be expecting of his attacker. While Enrique and Mbappe would not have expected to be working together for a long time, a piece of recent news might just prolong their partnership.
