Unstoppable is the word that defines Inter Miami so far. Once again, the Herons made headlines by staging a remarkable comeback, securing a resounding 2-3 victory over Montreal. Even though star player Lionel Messi did not play a direct role in the five-goal thriller, the Argentinian superstar still managed to lead his team to break another record.
With this victory, Inter Miami managed to extend their overall winning streak to five consecutive matches, the first time in the club’s history. Before, David Beckham‘s soccer franchise had either endured a loss or drawn in between. The last time they lost the match was in the return leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-final, which they had lost 3-1 and 5-2 on overall aggregate. Since then, they have been able to balance themselves on the rope.
Notably, they came in the fixture against the Canadian club after having thrashed New York Red Bulls 6-2, where Messi exhibited his record-breaking heroics. Rest, the victories came against Sporting KC (2-3), Nashville (3-1), and New England Revolution (1-4). During all these games, both Inter Miami and Messi managed to etch remarkable records as well.

Lionel Messi erupted over new MLS rule during Montreal vs Inter Miami
During the 41st minute, Lionel Messi was escorted to the sidelines by medical staff for treatment after being brought down by a Montreal player with a harsh tackle. As the captain gestured to the referee to re-enter the game, he was instructed to wait for two minutes, leaving Miami vulnerable as they continued to play with 10 men. Interestingly, Messi glanced at the camera and remarked, “With this type of rule, we are doing a bad job.” While his frustrations were understandable, given that Tata Martino’s side were 2-0 down within the first half-hour, there remained a silver lining.

As Messi was waiting to return, Miami was awarded a free-kick which Matias Rojas took charge of. The No. 7 stuck it brilliantly leaving the opposition goalkeeper with no chance whatsoever of saving it. Within 10 minutes of the first half, Miami hit the comeback nail as Luis Suarez scored his 11th goal of the season to equal the scoreline. As the second half began with both sides on level, Rojas again took charge to set up a brilliant assist for Benjamin Cremaschi, who somehow managed to find the winner past the Montreal defense. Onwards and upward!
