FIFA again is getting targeted by fans and other communities, but this time there are other parties on crosshair too. This story is developing since last year when Russia invaded Ukraine. Almost every industry cut ties with its Russian counterparts. This historical event even left its effects on soccer. Multiple teams from around the world were trying to qualify for the Qatar World Cup 2022.
Multiple teams signed a letter and refused to play against the Russian soccer team. That led to FIFA removing them and UEFA also joined with a competitive ban on Russian Clubs. But, Russian clubs are still playing against UEFA members in Turkey.
While the world witnessed the biggest sporting event in Qatar last year, the Russian soccer League was also going on. There was also an incident where players got carried away and started fighting with each other. But, now UEFA and FIFA are in the crosshairs of thousands and thousands of fans critiquing them for letting Russian clubs play in Turkey.

A loophole in FIFA and UEFA ban
According to the ban announced by the governing body FIFA, banned Russia from all kinds of International matches. However, UEFA, which governs club soccer, had only banned Russian clubs from playing competitive matches with UEFA members. Since this ban doesn’t have any statement about friendlies, the matches in Turkey are technically not breaking any laws.

A spokesperson from Ukraine talked about the matches going on in Turkey. He said, “Although the games in Turkey have an unofficial status, we consider this a violation of the isolation of Russian sports… Any representatives of the country has no right to participate in international activities, including sports. Russia and its companion Belarus should be isolated completely.”

There is no official statement from the UEFA regarding the matches. Although they are facing an extreme backlash from the community, fans can expect statements in the coming days. Although the UEFA had a meeting with Russian soccer representatives.
Russian clubs will remain banned
After relentless trying, UEFA last week declined Russia’s request to lift the ban. The athletic reported the meeting took place in Switzerland and the ban would continue to be in effect.
