Recently, a top Saudi League executive, Carlo Nohra, teased some inside take on the AS Roma manager’s move to the Gulf kingdom. In an interview with an Italian newspaper, the Saudi League Operations Director made some bold declarations.

To sum it up, he implied that sooner or later, Jose Mourinho will have to give up on his qualms and take the offer from the league. He divulged, “Speaking for myself, I’m waiting for him[Mourinho] to arrive… [His arrival]will rival that of Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of impact.”

While he didn’t confirm whether Mourinho’s move was a done deal, his statements underline the league’s ambition to continue raising its standards and global recognition. In Mourinho, they see a potential game-changer who can elevate the league’s standing on the world stage.

Nohra states, “There is no doubt that the so-called ‘Ronaldo effect’ was incredible for us and it may not happen again because there are not many Cristiano Ronaldos around. Everything changed in terms of visibility, relevance, television contracts. It is important that we continue to increase the level of the league and we are trying to sign another ‘bomb’.”

In Mourinho, he expects the potential for an equally significant impact: “I believe Mourinho will have an equally big impact. I can’t say if it will be our next big acquisition, but obviously, his arrival would represent another huge leap in quality in numerous aspects.”
