For a country small in size and population, Portugal knows how to make a name for itself on the worldwide stage. The Portuguese people particularly add to making the country well known. Among the celebrities from Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo stands out the most.
The professional soccer player who plays for Al-Nassr was born in Funchal, Madeira, on February 5th, 1985. Since then, he has become a world-renowned figure, becoming the recognizable face of the country. He is even the most-followed personality on Instagram with over 586 million followers. And despite being recently ‘mistreated’ by certain sections of the public, Cristiano Ronaldo remains a celebrated figure in his homeland Portugal.

A study recently conducted asked the question, “Who is the most-known public figure in Portugal?” The list has many prominent figures and celebrities fill the list but the one topping it all is Ronaldo himself. The study “Public Figures and Digital Influencers” revealed exactly how well-known Ronaldo is.

It is found that 13.2% of people had him as the first response when asked about the most-known public figure in their country. The record-breaking player has had a remarkable success rate over the course of his successful career. This streak of success brought with it a massive fan following and acclaim from a huge section of the population.

Zulmira Ferreira commented on how Georgina would be hesitant to come back to Portugal due to the “mistreatment” she and Cristiano have had to endure recently. “I don’t think Gio will want to come here, I wouldn’t come either. I love Portugal and the Portuguese people. What has been done to him lately is incredibly painful for someone who has contributed so much to his home country and elevated its name around THE world”. Though Ronaldo has been controversial, he is still a celebrated personality, especially in his country of origin.
