In the realm of soccer and intense competition, sportsmanship prevails sometimes. And that’s what fans witnessed during Wrexham AFC versus Chelsea friendly in the US. Premier League giants dominated with a 5-0 win. But the result paled away with a bizarre incident that preceded unforeseen injury.

Often, the friendlies see the majority of players of the squad getting a chance to play. Generally, the teams are allowed to make 11 substitutions in the game. Wrexham started the Chelsea game by naming their strongest side. On the contrary, Chelsea fielded the youngsters. At halftime, both teams made substitutions, with Wrexham making five and Chelsea six.

They did the same after the hour mark when the Reds and the Londoners made the remaining substitutions. With all substitutions done, Chelsea saw an unforeseen injury, as their stand-in captain Trevoh Chalobah got injured. The Blues boss decided to bring on Marc Cucurella to replace injured Chalobah. And that’s where Wrexham and the referees showed generosity.

Mauricio Pochettino, who started Cucurella, decided to rest him after halftime. Ben Chilwell replaced the outgoing Spaniard. Despite being substituted, Cucurella came on again to replace Chalobah, with Wrexham and the referees having no issues with the substitution. Chelsea played the final minutes with 11 players after their rivals allowed them to do so, despite being 3-0 down.
