The celebrations have ceased at the STōK Cae Ras and the team is gearing up for next season. Preparing for the ‘big test‘ ahead, Phil Parkinson has demanded fresh faces in the squad. As such, there is uncertainty regarding players’ future at Wrexham. It was lately when Ryan Reynolds and Co. shocked everyone by releasing eight players from the club with incomings in mind. But, according to Jacob Mendy, one of the released players played a pivotal role in the ‘push‘ for the promotion.

In a recent interview, Jacob Mendy was all praise for former Wrexham star Callum McFadzean. Regarding the wing-back, Mendy said, “Callum trained really well.” Mendy added, “He was a really good man to have in the changing room and he is also a very good player.” Both Callum and Mendy competed for the same position as James McClean. Although Parkinson preferred the other two ahead of Callum, his attitude never dropped.

Jacob Mendy revealed, “He played his part as well. He pushed us and made sure that we did well.” Despite featuring in just 5 matches last season, Callum McFadzean gave his all in training and forced his teammates to level up. Mendy acknowledged his efforts and said, “If you see a team-mate do well, you also have to do well so that helps each other.

Among the current Wrexham stars, Mendy expressed his admiration for James McClean. As per the full-back, McClean is a ‘different breed‘ of a player with immense physical attributes and a work ethic. A midfielder naturally, McClean also fills in at Mendy’s left-back slot when needed. A versatile player is a coach’s dream and would undoubtedly be an asset to Phil Parkinson’s plans. There is uncertainty surrounding McClean’s future at the STōK Cae Ras.

Age and injuries remain a concern for James McClean’s Wrexham future

In May, James McClean’s contract at Wrexham was extended for the full 2024/25 season. Unfortunately, the good news didn’t last long, as the midfielder soon suffered an injury blow. As shown on his Instagram, the versatile star suffered a gruesome blood blister on his heel. The recovery period is not certain and there are concerns he may miss the upcoming US tour!

Even if McClean quickly returns to fitness, the injury has highlighted a crucial issue. At 35, the Irishman is not the player to build the team around. Hence, getting a suitable replacement with the Irishman’s qualities has to be the priority for the transfer windows ahead. For now, let’s hope that McClean can return to full fitness and enjoy a season free of further injuries.
