Wrexham AFC will be playing in the fourth division after spending 15 years in the National League. Their promotion dream came true after winning the league title. The club has already started to plan for the massive 2023-24 season. As a part of their preparations, the Red Dragons have given a significant update on the contracts of the players on the roster.

It comes after their co-owner Ryan Reynolds received a major setback. Reynolds wanted to buy the NHL franchise Ottawa Senators. In his attempt, he joined hands with Canada-based real estate group Remington. However, NHL rejected their request on a one-month discussion window before the final bid. As a result, Reynolds and Remington opted out of the bidding process for the Senators.

It can be a piece of good news for the third-oldest soccer club. The Deadpool star can focus on the club and plan for the transfer window.

Wrexham AFC gives a significant update

The Red Dragons will try and build a competitive squad ahead of League Two season. In their attempt to start building a squad, the club has released a significant update on the contract situations of the current roster. It comes as a crucial part of roster planning. The Red Dragons will go into the transfer window knowing the positions they need to update.

The official statement says the contracts of Paul Mullin, Mark Howard, and Anthony Forde have been extended by a season after promotion. The club has offered a new contract to Ben Foster and is waiting for his confirmation. There’s also a new contract on the table for Liam McAlinden. On the other hand, Wrexham will offer rising star Owen Cushion his first professional deal. 

Wrexham is also studying the situation of Kai Evans. They are waiting to see when Evans resumes training after the injury. The club exercised the option to extend the contracts of Scott Butler and Aaron James.

The Welsh club has released 11 players from the roster. Club thanked Harry Lennon, who wants to retire after a series of injuries. Other players whose contracts have ended and won’t be extended are: Ryan Austin, Kai Calderbank-Park, Malik Dijksteel, Reece Hall-Johnson, Jake Hyde, Rory Watson, Tom Jenkins, Dan Jones, Louis Lloyd, and Will Mountfield.

The club has cleared a significant amount of players from their roster. With the backing of the Hollywood owners, they can go into the transfer window to get their roster sorted out. Which players the club signs in the summer remains to be seen.
