It’s been just over a year since Erling Haaland left Dortmund to join Manchester City. Erling Haaland’s goal-scoring intensity could be felt long after he departed from the German club. It’s only now that a Nigerian forward from Bayer Leverkusen has accomplished the same feat as him. It took 445 days to fill the void that Haaland left in the Bundesliga.

In what has been a wonderful debut season for Erling Haaland, he has been nominated for the Ballon d’Or and won the UEFA POTY while breaking the top goal scorer record by scoring 36 goals in 38 games in the Premier League. The Leverkusen forward seems to be on the same path as Haaland.

Victor Boniface, the Bayer Leverkusen, has been on an impressive run of form. The 22-year-old forward provided an assist in Bayer’s first fixture against RB Leipzig and scored 2 goals against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Boniface’s exceptional performances have not only earned him the Player of the Month title for August in the Bundesliga but also solidified his status as one of the league’s brightest talents, following in the footsteps of Haaland with a rare double honor of Best Player and Best Youngster.

The Nigerian forward is also the third player to have made six goal contributions in his first three Bundesliga fixtures. The other two players to have achieved this feat are Paco Alcacer and Erling Haaland. Both Alcacer and Haaland achieved this feat during their time at Signal Iduna Park.

Bayer Leverkusen is pulling off wonders with Xabi Alonso at the helm. The former Liverpool player started his managerial campaign with Real Sociedad’s B team before taking the steer at Bayer Leverkusen in 2022.

The new favorites of the Bundesliga

Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen is topping the Bundesliga table with 10 points after playing 4 matches. Bayer has won 3 and drawn 1 in their last four fixtures in the Bundesliga. Alonso’s men qualified for the Europa League in his first season as the manager of the club. A feat that many top managers have difficulty to achieve. The team’s last match against Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich also showcased their quality of play and managed to get a draw as the match ended 2-2.
