Following his retirement from soccer, Gerard Pique swiftly turned his attention towards expanding his business ventures. While managing two smaller Spanish soccer clubs and a sports event management company, he recently embarked on a new endeavor. Teaming up with Ibai Llanos, they launched a league called the Kings League.
Although the league’s rules initially seemed unconventional, fans quickly developed a fondness for them. The first season became so popular that it gave the Spaniard enough confidence to bring back the second season. The former Barcelona man earned big chunks from hosting finals in the Camp Nou and Twitch streams. This led the defender to broadcast the new season on television. However, that has gone the wrong way, as he is enduring a massive drop in viewership.

After facing consecutive drops in audiences for two weeks, Gerard Pique has once again suffered a huge blow in viewership. The Kings League, despite being televised for three weeks, has not been able to attract a significant viewership. This has brought the future of the league’s viewership into question.
In a recent match between Pio FC and 1K Fútbol Club broadcasted on Cuatro, only 249,000 viewers tuned in, accounting for a mere 2.3% share. This broadcast resulted in a 4.6% share loss and a decline of over 440,000 viewers for the channel compared to the previous airing.

Furthermore, the Queens League, which aired the previous Saturday, fared even worse with a concerning 1.8% share and just over 160,000 viewers. Piqué’s women’s league experienced a loss of over 350,000 viewers and a four-percentage-point drop in audience share compared to the previous match aired on Cuatro.
Earlier, both men’s and women’s leagues had a share of 3.5%, with the Kings accumulating 382,000 viewers and the Queens having 295,000 viewers. However, in the following week, both lost more than one share point, with Queens League having 2.6% and 232,000 viewers, and the Kings League having 2.5% share and 259,000 people. Indeed, this is a state of concern, as it already indicates potential challenges for the league’s future. This huge conundrum comes after he recently pocketed $3 million.

The ticket sales that were ranging from $10 to $60 didn’t cover the revenue, but also from online streaming as well. While food and beverage purchases, and the sale of various merchandise such as hats, sweatshirts, scarves, and more. Pique has undoubtedly achieved remarkable success in organizing a highly successful soccer event on a grand scale. However, he must buckle up to boost the audience reach once again, as it may incur huge losses.
