The Inter Miami owner is on a 3-day visit to India. Many had anticipated Beckham to be one of the VVIPs in attendance. His association with UNICEF dates back to his playing days at Manchester United. UNICEF India has also put out a tweet welcoming its champion ambassador to the country. Interestingly, the ICC has also partnered with UNICEF to promote inclusion and gender inequality within cricket. Perhaps this was the crucial factor that accelerated the reports of Beckham possibly arriving to watch the match.
However, Beckham definitely won’t be the only ambassador in attendance. Notably, Tendulkar is also a goodwill ambassador. With Bollywood personalities expected to attend the match, we can see other representatives arrive at the forefront.

Beckham officially became a UNICEF goodwill ambassador in 2005. The soccer icon launched the 7 Fund partnership in 2015, which benefited children overcoming bullying, pre-mature marriage and providing educational opportunities. The Inter Miami owner has traveled around to raise awareness and funds to fight against children’s issues with his recent visit to India.
Beckham has outlined his reason for joining the global organization. He had said, “I created my fund with UNICEF because I want a world where children grow up safe – safe from violence, war, poverty, hunger and preventable disease. A world in which all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.” With his deeds, Beckham has proved that he is a person who practices what he preaches.
While his absence at the World Cup may be disappointing for Indian fans, Beckham has once again made the right choice. A feature he excelled in during his playing days.
