Brighton, who have been flying under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, ran riot at Old Trafford last night, winning 3-1, with Danny Welbeck stinging his former club to open the scoring for the away side. Welbeck, a former Manchester United player, who currently plays for Brighton Hove and Albion has overtaken David Beckham’s goal tally in the Premier League. The United icon scored 62 goals in the 265 appearances for the Manchester outfit, winning 6 league titles in the process.

Danny Welbeck has overtaken Becks and has scored a total of 63 goals in the Premier League. The record-breaker against United came in the 20th minute, with Simon Adingra providing the assist for the goal. Danny Welbeck joined Brighton from Watford in 2020 and has made 84 appearances. The $18 million forward is a former Arsenal player and has made 88 appearances for the Gunners.

In what seems to be a renaissance under De Zerbi, Brighton qualified for the Europa League last year securing the 7th position. The club also cashed in big in the summer, with Moises Caicedo making his way to Chelsea for a record-breaking $139 million.

Erik Ten Hag blamed the loss against Arsenal on VAR while also pointing out Jadon Sancho’s underwhelming fitness level in training. Sancho then took to social media to hit back at the remarks made by his gaffer. In an Instagram post, Sancho wrote, “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that are completely untrue. I have conducted myself in the training very well this week. I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!”

The statement clarified that Jadon Sancho will remain on a personal training program away from the first-team group, pending resolution of a squad discipline issue.
