Liverpool star Darwin Nunez had a rough time following his move to Anfield last summer. The Uruguayan striker has failed to justify the expectations over his massive price tag, with fans still counting on the player to consolidate himself as a key striker for the Reds. While Liverpool fans are fine with taking their time with Nunez, rival fans haven’t missed the chance to mock the striker. Liverpool’s clash against Nottingham Forest in March saw rival supporters troll Nunez after Jurgen Klopp brought him onto the field.
Nunez’s substitution in the 60th minute saw fans chant “You are just a s**t Andy Carroll” repeatedly to throw the Uruguayan off his game. However, it seemed to have motivated the striker as he scored the winner for his team in the 99th minute to silence the Forest fans. The Liverpool star talked about his experience at City Ground in an interview with ESPN while revealing Jurgen Klopp’s reaction to the trolls.

Nunez stated, “In that game, the Nottingham fans were singing to me. But I didn’t understand anything, thank goodness. I ended up scoring the goal on the hour, and then the coach (Jürgen Klopp) in the locker room said, screw them. From the moment you start playing and until you retire. There will always be someone who will criticize you. I avoid reading those comments.”

Klopp talked about the Uruguayan’s future at the club claiming the striker has put on a lot of work and has just been unlucky. The German stated, “He has been unlucky in so many situations. He does everything right, and the ball doesn’t go in. There are no alternatives but going through it. That’s really tough for a young man, it’s really tough. He knows about the expectations here, he has big expectations of himself.”
It will be interesting to see if the new head coach Arne Slot has similar feelings about the former Benfica man. The Dutchman could decide Nunez’s future during the pre-season, with the new head coach looking to start with Liverpool career with a bang!
