Things have gone from bad to worse for former Barcelona icon Dani Alves. The defender is currently serving time behind bars in an assault case since January and will undergo a legal trial in 2024. While it was reported that the two parties might settle the case, negotiations have broken down. The court has still given the two parties more time until February to settle their differences.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Ester García, the lawyer representing the victim, formally submitted a request before the Barcelona Court. According to the request from the prosecution, the victim has requested nine years in prison and five years of supervised release for Alves.

Apart from the prison sentence, the victim has also demanded the player settle the compensation of $161,000 for damages and injuries.

The Barcelona court indicted the Brazilian earlier this year after they found conclusive evidence to take the case to trial. Alves has claimed he’s not guilty and will contest the legal process to clear his name.
