Saudi Pro League had gone bonkers last season, grasping anything that came their way. All the top clubs, Al Hilal, Al Nassr, and Al Ittihad, took their share of the quota. But the story had to halt somewhere, as Al Nassr’s hunger could be interrupted. Reports are emerging that transfer restrictions are being applied to Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr.

Even a few of the best players in the world, Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Neymar, had chosen to shift their attention to the Middle East. However, Al Nassr will need to hold on for a couple of years to have a shot at the market unless a player exits the club.

After Cristiano Ronaldo arrived, the clubs in Saudi Arabia got their confidence boosted and loosened their strings to acquire top talent. Al Nassr signed a few more top players, like Marcelo Brozovic and Sadio Mane. However, according to Kora Al Nassr, president of the federation, Anmar Al-Haili has claimed that the club cannot go for the next two years due to budget restrictions. The Al Nassr news page on Twitter quoted Al-Haili, declaring, “Club and Al Hilal will not be able to sign contracts during the next two years due to the allocated budget.”

They will stop Al Nassr and Al Hilal from making transfers, as claimed by Al-Haili. They reported these two clubs to spend approximately $550 million in the last window. However, Al Nassr’s premier signing came earlier in December.

Al Ittihad, the second-highest spending team last window, did not excessively spend on a marquee player. Thus, some restrictions came up.

Even though almost one billion dollars were spent in the last window, Al Nasser could expect to run slow in January. The Riyad-based club was potentially targeting Manchester United’s Raphael Varane. However, the team would have to hold back considering the new restriction.

Significantly, the Saudi Pro League’s director of soccer, Michael Emenalo, also hopes the January window will be quiet. The former Nigerian soccer player claimed that the teams already spent a good deal last week and that the focus should be on improving the teams from within. The league expects players like Mohamed Salah and Jadon Sancho to arrive in January. But it most likely could be other than Al Nassr.

Do you think it will jeopardize Ronaldo and Co for their push for the title?
