At last season’s end, then Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award. In its wake, who would have thought of imminent unemployment? The Spaniard abruptly called it a day at Old Trafford in June 2023, owing to a contract dispute. Although Newcastle United came close to hiring the ace goalkeeper, the move did not materialize. Meanwhile, albeit interest and rumors to sign De Gea, no Saudi club has yet made an enterprising offer. Notably, Al Nassr has decided to ice out Cristiano Ronaldo‘s former teammate this transfer season.
Al Nassr is lacing up to make the best of the January transfer window. But per a recent update, David De Gea or any other goalkeeper has a snowball’s chance in hell to serve Ronaldo’s outfit.

According to Actu SPL, Al Nassr has no plans to sign a goalkeeper in this winter transfer window. For the time being, the Knights of Najd continue to put their bets on trusted goalies, Nawaf Al-Aqidi and David Ospina. While rumors have it that Al Nassr has eyed key prospects like Kevin De Bruyne to amp up their roster, their fleet of goalkeepers will remain without a change.

Previously, while De Gea was fresh off his dramatic Man United exit, Al Nassr had negotiated with him. Though the Spaniard had shown interest in the move, the deal got cancelled, as his wife refused to move to the Middle East. More so, when the transfer season actually dawned, Al Nassr themselves snubbed all goalkeepers. Now, the 33-year-old continues to look for a new employer with an impressive CV in hand. Anyhow, it is not like no club has ever made De Gea an offer.
Is De Gea choosing to remain unemployed?
Other than Newcastle United and Al Nassr, Italy’s Inter Milan had also reached out to the Spanish goalie. But the two parties could not work out a fitting deal. Meanwhile, a few mid to bottom ranked European clubs have also shown interest in the veteran. These offers were far from enterprising for De Gea, who has enjoyed the spotlight at powerhouses like Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.

While constantly rejecting such advances, De Gea makes sure to enjoy his ‘me time’ at home in Madrid. Anyhow, critics care two hoots about the veteran’s me time. They say that the 33-year-old is slowly walking towards retirement. With Al Nassr out of the picture, De Gea continues his job hunt, or worse, his walk to an early retirement.
