Cristiano Ronaldo was goalless for Portugal in the recent UEFA Euros, while the 2016 champions crashed out of the tournament in the quarter-finals. Apparently, fans and pundits, flaunting their wisdom, opined that the 5x Ballon d’Or winner should hang his boots. It must also be noted that Ronaldo’s fellow teammate, and a similarly aged icon Pepe, had his swan song with the Portuguese national team. And now, CR7 has finally broken his silence regarding his retirement plan. However, his words aren’t something that his naysayers long to hear.
The 39-year-old superstar said when he departs the Portuguese NT, nobody will know. Perhaps he will shake the soccer world with a sudden move then as well. “When I leave the national team I will not tell anyone, it will be a very spontaneous decision on my part,” said Ronaldo. Any player of Ronaldo’s stature would announce retirement before a game and ensure they have a grand and emotional farewell game.
But in the former Real Madrid star’s case, let’s expect him to shock us with a retirement decision after his last dance.

Anyhow, for the time being, the 2016 Euro champion is keen on continuing his fight with his Portuguese pals. “But what I want now is to be able to help the national team,” Ronaldo added. Though Ronaldo’s retirement date is as ambiguous as it can be, the 5x Ballon d’Or winner is pretty clear about what he wants to do after calling his storied soccer stint quits. And it isn’t anything soccer-related, surprisingly.
Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t crave for returning to the soccer pitch after his retirement
Like many other soccer greats, Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to take up a coaching role after retirement. The 39-year-old has once famously proved he’s more than fit for that job. Remember the 2016 UEFA Euro when the Portuguese coach Fernando Santos took a backseat and Ronaldo strategized for the Portugal NT in the Euro finale versus France? Portugal took home the Euro silverware that night, thanks partially to Ronaldo’s antics at the touchline. However, you won’t see that version of the Al Nassr captain in the future.

He stressed he will concentrate on a non-soccer venture likely after retirement. Considering CR7 has ventured in plenty, he could surely continue to grow his off-the-field business interests. He has been collaborating with a new brand, each passing day. Besides, CR7 is now also donning a YouTube content creator’s hat since he launched his record-breaking YouTube channel, UR Cristiano.
