Sir Alex Ferguson‘s legacy at Manchester United is just irreplaceable! The ex-United boss was at the forefront as he turned the team into a force to be reckoned with. Sir Alex, during his time at Old Trafford, fostered from of the biggest stars of the modern era, including the likes of David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Wayne Rooney. However, while the former United manager bagged multiple titles during his time at the club, he lost as many relationships along the side. Well, his rapport with Rooney was no different!
Sir Alex signed Wayne Rooney from Everton back in 2004, assisting him to become one of the finest strikers of his era. The Englishman was present on ‘The Overlap’ earlier this week with his ex-teammates Gary Lineker and Roy Keane alongside Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher. During the podcast, Rooney commented on his falling out with the United boss, claiming things changed between him and the manager following Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Real Madrid!
Wayne Rooney stated, “I wanted to, I genuinely wanted to stay United. But um, I think there was a clash between me and the manager. I signed the new deal. In terms of my relationship with the manager, of course, it was never the same. Um, after I think the big thing what probably hurt him is he had just sold Teves. They had just sold Ronaldo, and he probably couldn’t afford to let me go.”

Wayne Rooney was not the only player who had a rough falling out with Sir Alex. Club icon David Beckham had a well-documented turmoil with the manager during his last months at Old Trafford, sparking his move to Real Madrid in 2003.

While Sir Alex Ferguson and David Beckham had a beautiful relationship with each other, things took a turn for the worse in 2003. Manchester United’s defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup saw things get heated as the manager kicked a boost to Becks’ face, which saw the player getting stitches following the incident.

Things went downhill since the event, as talks between the manager and the player broke down to the extent that Sir Alex even denied David Beckham to meet him before his eventual move to Real Madrid.
However, the exit did not impact Manchester United, as Sir Alex quickly brought in two young guns who changed the course of history for the club. Beckham’s departure from Old Trafford paved the path for both Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, who flourished under the manager after joining the club in 2004. While the two enjoyed a great run under the club icon, their exits were not too different.
